It sounds like you had a very hands off management before going lean. That is bad. They were probably really clueless about what was going on on the floor. Because of that, they are probably going through a major learning curve. They should take your experiences and suggestions more seriously, but remaining ignorant and letting the workforce do whatever isn’t healthy either. The issue isn’t lean, it’s lack of leadership from management.
The inventors of Lean could have found a better name for this process. Lean vs fat; of course, cut away the fat and one’s bottom line is improved, very attractive to senior management.
Sadly, Lean is often seen by management as ultimately a way to cut human resource costs. It’s the whole process that needs addressing.
I’ve seen the effects of poorly administered program – MBO comes to mind.
Oh yes, notice the number of “legacy” workers in that class… says a lot.
